Dental Implants - Which Dental Specialist To Choose?
We perform dental bone graft surgery, or grafting, in our state-of-the-art surgical facility while you’re deeply sedated. We can transplant a small piece of bone from one part of your jaw to the deficient area but most often we use bone harvested from a human donor or bovine source. We expose the bone through a small opening in the gum tissue and place the supplemental bone. We then suture the gum tissue together and allow the surgical site to heal before placing any implants.
The healing phase can vary depending on the extent and type of grafting. Some minor bone grafts can be performed at the same time as the implant placement. This is where we carefully elevate the sinus floor and place bone grafting material underneath.
Bone (hard tissue) and gums (soft tissue) heal at different rates after surgery. When neighboring hard and soft tissues are healing at the same time, they can interfere with each other’s progress. We use a biocompatible mesh as a protective barrier between the two to ease healing after grafting.
